A frozen aisle staple previously dubbed ‘the ultimate baked potato’ by foodies has been restocked by Aldi.

The German retailer’s ‘Selected’ brand goose fat crispy roasting potatoes have a cult-like following among Aldi shoppers who are left ‘completely distraught’ every time they disappear from the shelves. 

But eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted the 1kg bags back among the frozen vegetables and were quick to share the good news.

‘In store now!’ one woman said sharing a photograph of a freezer full of the $4 spuds to a popular Aldi fans Facebook group.

And the post caused a frenzy online.

‘Yes, life made. Definitely going to Aldi today. Goodbye diet and hello goodness,’ one woman said.

‘Tell me if this is weird, but I am more excited by the potatoes than the special buys,’ one woman laughed. 

Another woman said the post made her re-think her day.

‘I am 20 weeks pregnant and have gone off so much food but this post made me drool. I think I will have to make a pit-spot on the way home.’ 

The potatoes cost $4 per kilogram and have a huge following among customers

While another admitted they had already stocked up on the potatoes and was thinking about ‘making room’ in the freezer for more in case stock runs out.

‘I wish they had them all year,’ one woman complained.

While another customer who ‘got hooked’ last year said she often buys four packets at a time.

Some people said the potatoes are best coked in the oven but others said they brown up better using an air fryer

Some were gutted they hadn’t checked the frozen section themselves.

‘I wish I saw this earlier, I was just there getting bacon,’ a mum said, feeling sad to miss out.

The potatoes are released every year in the months leading up to Christmas and have been described as ‘perfect in every way’ in previous years.
