Pokémon Legends: Arceus continues the Pokémon tradition of allowing players the opportunity to catch visually distinct shiny Pokémon as a rare reward for persistent players. Those accustomed to using the nursery and hatching eggs to breed for shiny Pokémon will now need to find what they are looking for exclusively in the wild. Finding shiny Pokémon in the wild is different than in prior Pokémon games, and players will need to spend a lot of time working on their Pokédex to increase their odds.
The good news for players seeking the distinctly colored shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is that they are visible in the overworld, so experienced players will know immediately when they see a shiny Pokémon wandering about. When they spot one, players should approach carefully to avoid scaring it off. Shiny Pokémon have a low appearance rate of about 1/4096, and they make a unique sound when they appear in-game. While the odds of catching shiny Pokémon in the wild are very low, there are tricks players can use to increase their odds of acquiring one.

In addition to recognizing the visible color change in the overworld and hearing a distinct sound, shiny Pokémon hunters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will also notice a subtle sparkling visual cue to indicate the Pokémon is shiny. This is particularly helpful for shiny Pokémon like Pikachu, whose shiny variant is a subtle change in yellow hue that could be easy to miss. Other Pokémon change drastically in appearance, like Shinx, which is normally blue and appears bright yellow when shiny.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus: How To Catch Shiny Pokémon
To increase the appearance rate of shiny Pokémon, players should first work toward completing the Pokédex. Unlike prior Pokémon games, players will need to do a lot more than just see a regional Pokémon to complete its Pokédex entry. Each time a player successfully completes a specific Pokémon’s Pokédex entry and raises it to level 10, as indicated by the total points in the Pokédex, their odds increase to 1/2048.25 for that Pokémon appearing shiny in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. A level 10 Pokédex entry means that the player has completed enough of the specific goals to raise the entry for that Pokémon to level 10. Completing the Pokédex in full for a specific Pokémon will increase the odds of finding a shiny for that Pokémon to 1/1024.38.
Additionally, Mass Outbreaks, where a bunch of the same Pokémon appear in the same area at once, increase the odds of finding a shiny to 1/158.02. If players obtained level 10 for the specific Pokémon in their Pokédex that is experiencing a Mass Outbreak, the odds are further increased to 1/152.19 for finding a shiny. While Mass Outbreaks are a great opportunity for finding shiny Pokémon, they are a timed event so players should spend as much time as possible catching the specific Pokémon to cause as many respawns as they can within the time limit.
The Shiny Charm in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will allow players to increase their chances of finding the elusive shiny Pokémon. To acquire the charm, players will need to complete the Pokédex by raising the Pokédex entry for each individual Pokémon in the game to level 10. Once this is complete, players can interact with Professor Laventon to receive their Shiny Charm.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available for Nintendo Switch.
